Oregano’s Pizza Bistro Ahwatukee
An Oregano’s FamilyTradition
MARK RUSSELL OPENED THE FIRST OREGANO’S RESTAURANT IN OLD TOWN SCOTTSDALE IN 1993 AS A DEDICATION TO HIS PARENTS.
Back in the 50s, they loved to entertain. On the weekends, they would use every chair in their apartment, throw a large red and white checkered tablecloth over the dining room table and invite friends and family over for dinner. To enthusiastic crowds, his dad would serve variations of time-honored family dishes as well as new recipes he was tinkering with, most of which received outstanding reviews. Dad’s pasta dishes were fabulous, but his pizzas were his crowning achievement. He practiced his simple philosophy about life: the key to happiness is friends, good food and music.
ENTERTAINING IS EMBEDDED IN THE FAMILY’S DNA.
Both have since passed away, but their passion lives on in our hearts. They were loved, thought of highly and are missed greatly. While cleaning out their garage, close to a thousand assorted plates, wine glasses and silverware (none of which matched) were discovered. Maybe his dad was collecting them for years in the hopes of opening his own restaurant. His parents would be so proud of the many people who have become part of the Oregano’s family and share their belief in great food served with charismatic hospitality. And just so you know, the antiques and big band music that surround you are a tribute to Mark’s wonderful life growing up. We are all truly honored to have you here today.
One of Tukee’s Best Italian restaurants.
